Here's a microbalance I built a few weeks ago. We calibrated it using a square centimeter of paper. We measured the mass of 50 sheets of paper on an electronic balance, then calculated how many square centimeters of paper that was, and divided. In the end, I was able to use my microbalance to measure the mass of a single grain of millet.
